Port Orange has played host to one of Florida's best firearms dealers. With soaring sales and a demand for a larger parking area, the time as come for them to get a bigger shop.
So to ease the burden of moving thousands of guns and thousands of pounds of ammunition, they are having a huge moving sale. I have placed the flyer below. Print it up and head on down there before it's too late!
DeLand - One group of unlucky shoppers got to witness a gruesome plane crash at a peak time for supermarkets. Monday at 7PM. DeLand residents are still dealing with the tragedy as eyewitnesses said a single-engine experimental aircraft just took off from DeLand Airport when it lost power and dove nose first into the Publix within the Northgate Shopping Center. Located on International Speedway Blvd.Witnesses say they watched the play successfully take off and that's when they heard engine sputtering sounds. The pilot attempted to make a turn, maybe to get the aircraft back towards the airport, and instead lost control. Officials have identified three of the crash victims. 5 in total were injured either in the aircraft or shopping within Publix. Lisa Cordova and April Morris suffered minor injuries and were treated and released from Florida Hospital. Brenden Beitler, 20, was taken with serious burns to Orlando Regional Medical Center. The damage was so extensive, the structural integrity of the building has been compromised. This is preventing emergency services from entering the building to confirm if every has in fact been evacuated. Click here for the full story.

Debary, FL - It's not every day you get to write an article about a place you used to work at. Especially if that place is also a porn store. Now, I'm not sure if it's in the food, the water supply, or the air. But something is compelling people to fail miserably at committing even the most mundane of criminal acts. Cupid's Corner, an adult novelty store located at the heart of Debary, and the subject of numerous political attacks over the years. Namely for its controversial product offerings. Cody Conner, a 17-year-old mental midget, was fooled by a crafty 32 year old store manager, who convinced him to fill out an application instead of robbing the store. He did, giving his real information. The mother of 4 not only convinced Cody not to rob the store, but to instead focus his energy on finding a job. This begs the question: Has NO one else had this conversation with Cody? Is this the first time he's learning of such things? Either way, the clerk told Cody to hang on, she was thirsty and walked over to the gas station next door. From there, she called the police. Rodney Grimes Deltona - Just when Deltona Hills Golf & Country Club was off to a fresh start, 31-year-old Rodney Grimes had to ruin it. After two years of renovations and new owners, Deltona's only golf course was showing signs of revival. Former employee and full time douchebag, Grimes, had other plans. According to the Daytona News Journal, Rodney had been fired several years ago, and was ordered off the property last week. After the fire alarms alerted Deltona Fire Department to respond, they discovered a busted window where the fire originated from, which lead them to believe it was arson.Deputies were called in with a K-9 unit, which tracked down the suspect to his garage. He was found with a gash in his arm, wreaking of gasoline, and a gas can nearby.Genius.He did, however, admit to setting the fire in anger after the former employer forced him off the property and accused him of being a terrible employee. Harsh words indeed. Not enough justification to try and burn down a business. His bail was set at $7500 and his arm was treated at an area hospital. The West Volusia Beacon has images of thedamage from the fire, here.
Courtesy of The West Volusia Beacon Shawn Dresser, the owner of Dare Ware Fashions on Saxon Blvd, has been in business for over 20 years. At the same location. So it came as a surprise to Dresser that Deltona's City Council would now enforce a code ordinance for this particular business, which was there before Deltona became a City. According to reports, the city wants to clean up it's image. With all the parks in Deltona being revamped, the library facility completed, and roads being widened, the next step was to focus all of its energy on the relocating Dare Ware Fashions from the city's main entrance. Saxon Blvd at I-4. It's main corridor. While the logistics would make sense to outsiders, the fact that this business has been a target because of the image it portrays, is nonsense. The sign on the road does not draw negative attention, or scream "COME GET YOUR PORN!" A business that has paid their taxes and potentially brought revenue to surrounding businesses like Publix, Wendy's and the ever changing shops that open and close in that plaza, is unfair. Not to mention, enforcing this would only add another vacant suite to a complex struggling to keep businesses there. Across the street, you'll find an abandoned Hollywood Video building, and a sleazy internet gambling cafe packed to the brim with low-lives.It's disheartening the city would focus time and tax payer dollars to help a legitimate business potentially take it's storefront elsewhere. With a struggling home sales market, the city can't afford losing another successful business. Mayor John Masiarczyk , agreed this was a ridiculous attack. "That business has been there for years and years. If you go in there, you go in of your own free will," reported the West Volusia Beacon.
WFTV now reports the city is forcing Shawn Dresser to move the store immediately, or shut down. There is no word on what decision the owner has made.
Photography Gallery at the LEC. Since I spend the majority of my week at the Deltona Public Library, it was only appropriate that I walk over to the amazing Lyonia Environmental Center and then stroll through the 300+ acre preserve.
This place is amazing! I'm a nerd, so I thrive on absorbing random and seemingly useless knowledge. When I discovered this hidden gem right here in my backyard, I had to explore it.
I was able to get two videos up on YouTube of my walk through. Now the second you walk through the revolving door, you'll realize this place is geared towards children. Rightfully so. Adults have all but tossed in the towel on learning about their surroundings. Let's save this new generation of kids before the prophecies of the movie Idiocracy come true.
If you follow the news, or grew up in Deltona, you probably would never assume we had a quality Nature Center within 20 miles of us. However, here you'll find tons of interactive devices for kids, touch screen monitors, and displays that educate you a very important part of our ecosystem. The Florida Scrub.
Once you're done with formal stuff, strap on your hiking shoes and put on a camel-pack. Because it's time go out on the Lyonia Preserve trail! There are three levels of trails, covering 360 acres, which are well marked and maps are provided for visitors so you don't get lost. It's huge out there so it can happen.
Just last week, I went out on the trail and two soldiers were geared up with ruck sacs, weapons, and everything they would use in the field, heading out. I asked one of them if he liked using the trail to train and he said he drove there from Daytona twice a week to prepare himself for deployment. Pretty awesome!
Without further delay, here's a walk-through of the center. I think you and your kids would love it.
After over 7 years of back and forth nonsense on the project, property, and design aspects, Deltona's Movie Theater is finally done!
Epic Theatres 12 screen movie house was just a piece of the larger puzzle that was to become the hub of Deltona. A new, Avalon Park style community, with all kinds of shoppes and businesses to compete with communities like Avalon and Baldwin Park.

If you live in Deltona, you're used to the bashing this place receives for its very existence. What people don't appreciate are the free things it has to offer. Like the awesome parks, trails, and our kick ass library.
Right now, The Deltona Libary has Santa Land - a "Magical Forest" where kids walk through a maze to try and find Santa - going on now, until December 31st.

It's free, indoors, so bring the kids and keep them entertained for a couple of hours. It's a great way to kill time. Come early, then take them over to the Children's Library and let them find some books. We need more kids to enjoy reading and learning.
Best part about all of this is that it's FREE!
Deland may seem like a boring community, known only for petty crime, wildfires, and Stetson University. We can honestly say they also have a sense of humor! Kudos Checkers. You put Deland on the map!
