Most people who own a car, have a relationship with that vehicle. And that relationship is sometimes evident in the pet-name they give that car.

I've had an 1984 Pontiac Sunbird, named "Green Lantern" because the interior was a terrible green/red mix and every light on the dash was glowing. This thing was one heck of a P.O.S. but it ran just long enough to impress the girls because I had a car at all.

Then I had a 1987 Thunderbird, aptly named "Thunderchicken." And we even had a call for when I was coming down the street. Friends would yell "Bacaw!" This beast was just a cool car. I modded almost everything on it and had a tough time returning it back to stock before trading it on my next love.

"Sarah."

She was a 2001 Subaru Impreza GC8, rare and amazing to look at. Like many Subaru nerds, I fell in love with this car because of Sony's Gran Turismo. I had to have it. Like most things I put my mind to, I bought one. She got the "Sarah" after turning the car on leaving the dealership and the radio was on Orlando's 107.7. Jefferson Starship's "Sarah" was playing and I started singing like a maniac, while ripping through the gears.

I've also had a "Rusty" in my life. This 1986 LX Notchback Mustang (coupe) should have been crushed at a junkyard. The only thing that wasn't cloaked in rust was the windshield itself. So, with the help of a buddy who had a ton of tools and more time on his hand than made sense, I pieced this heap of trash together from spare parts I got on craigslist, ebay, and the junkyard. It made one track pass, and I nearly died after the floorboard broke through. I sold "Rusty" for $500 and I'm sure it's terrorizing the streets somewhere here in Central Florida.

Most recently, my right-hand-man has been "Jerome." A big, black, bad-ass V8 Dodge Ram 4x4. Nice 33" BFG Mud Terrains, dark tint, and a mean exhaust note. I set him up to last forever, drive hard, and look good doing it. You can use your imagination to figure out why he got the name "Jerome."
