Recently, there has been a bunch of online chatter regarding
Central Florida Ranges. In particular, Shoot Straight.
There have been a few incidents with mentally unstable
people using these facilities as a springboard for their plans of self-harm or
harm to others – in the case of the mother who shot her son and then herself on
purpose at the Casselberry location.
These scenarios are not indicative of how the facilities are
run as a business. Shoot Straight is nice enough to offer gun-rental services
for use in the ranges, for anyone looking to try a new pistol or caliper. This
service is great for people who are considering owning a gun but have never
fired one.
What is not mentioned in the news is that these facilities
are booked solid with people wanting to learn more about the safety and
handling of their firearms. People taking the Concealed Carry Courses jam pack local
gun ranges on a weekly basis. There is no shortage of local residents looking
to protect themselves and their families from the possibility of being
victimized at any point.
So it is only natural that emotionally unstable people will jump
on this bandwagon. Using this opportunity to harm themselves only brings a
negative aura to the entire community of law-abiding citizens who enjoy the
right to own a firearm.
Having frequented both the Casselberry and Apopka ranges, I
cannot say enough nice things about the staff and their professionalism. At no
time did I feel my safety was an issue. Neither should you.
